AI-Powered Digital Storytelling for Fundraising: Tools, Strategy, and Practice

This hands-on course prepares nonprofit fundraisers and communications professionals to use artificial intelligence and digital tools to design, execute, and optimize high-impact story-based fundraising campaigns. Students will learn how to apply storytelling and AI-powered technologies across the full campaign development process: from defining audiences and crafting compelling narratives to producing visual assets, optimizing digital channels, and driving conversion.

Through weekly applied assignments, participants will apply lessons and collaborate with generative AI tools to analyze organizational strengths, develop campaign goals, create donor avatars, and produce real storytelling assets, including videos, visuals, social media content, email campaigns, and website narratives. The course draws on proven storytelling frameworks while demonstrating how AI can enhance creativity, efficiency, and personalization without compromising mission, ethics, or trust.

Students will explore how storytelling functions across channels, including social media, email, websites, and emerging platforms, and how data, KPIs, and AI-enabled insights can be used to improve engagement and fundraising outcomes. The course also examines current innovations and trends shaping the digital fundraising landscape, equipping participants to evaluate new tools and platforms with confidence.

By the end of the course, students will have built a complete, AI-informed digital storytelling and fundraising campaign, including a polished pitch and strategic plan they can immediately adapt for their organization or professional portfolio.
