Sports Betting and Analytics
Sports analytics involves the use of data and quantitative techniques to assess performance and inform decision-making to gain a competitive edge in sports. This course expands on data analytics to help students develop and apply analytical skills valuable in business, using sports gaming as the primary context. Students will build expertise in critical thinking, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, predictive analytics, game theory, optimization, and simulation. Although these skills are applied to sports within the course, they have broad applicability in many business settings. The course will focus on three main areas: (1) evaluating and forecasting player and team performance, (2) decision-making and strategy in sports, and (3) fantasy sports and sports betting. This course affords students the opportunity to thoroughly explore the world of sports analytics and develop key skills in gaming.
