For MS in Financial Planning student Kurt Zhang, moving from Beijing to NYC was about more than just academics. Drawn to the fast-paced nature of New York City and NYU's reputation, Kurt was inspired to take his expertise to the next level in the epicenter of global finance. "The main factor that attracted me was the city of New York itself. I had always been captivated by its charm through shows like Sex and the City and Friends." Can you blame him?

What Drew Kurt to NYU

Beyond the city's allure, Kurt was motivated by NYU's strong business programs and its unique cultural environment. Kurt's decision to choose NYU was influenced by more than just the city. He was inspired by "a vlogger I admire who is an NYU alumnus" and the school's renowned reputation in the business world. NYU offered both academic rigor and real-world experience, helping him develop the skills needed to advance in his career.

One of Kurt's standout academic experiences was completing the capstone course, where he worked on financial planning strategies for clients through case studies. "It involved working on several case studies, allowing us to experience every aspect of designing financial planning strategies for clients," Kurt explains. He quickly learned that "the real world is far more complex than the theoretical assumptions we often encounter."

Through interacting with professors and classmates from various cultural backgrounds, I gained a broader perspective and developed a global outlook, empowering me to adapt to life in any city worldwide."
Exploring the US on Snowboard and Skis

While advancing his education, Kurt also embraced life outside the classroom. A passionate snowboarder, he made the most of his time in the US. "I got an Ikon Pass, which allowed me to visit more than ten ski resorts across five states," Kurt recalls. He also found time to indulge in his love for soccer and road trips, exploring iconic spots like the CA-1 highway and Yellowstone National Park.

Looking Ahead to a Global Financial Career

After graduation, Kurt plans to continue working in financial analysis and gain experience in different regions worldwide. "I plan to continue working in the financial analysis field and aim to gain experience in different regions worldwide," he says. His advice for incoming students? "Work hard, play hard!"
