<p>Minwoo Song holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, but pursued both a master's and PhD in financial economics. When given the opportunity to teach economics courses at NYU SPS, he greatly enjoyed interacting with the engaged and enthusiastic students. He now loves teaching because it allows him to witness students' <i>aha</i> moments—when they grasp concepts that are essential for their lives.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;I often say, <i>Money doesn't make you happy, but without money, life can be miserable</i>. Therefore, understanding economics is indispensable,&quot; Dr. Song quips. He helps students do just that. In his courses, students learn to interpret crucial macroeconomic data such as GDP, CPI, and unemployment rates. Understanding these metrics helps them grasp global economic trends, which in turn provides them with opportunities to make informed financial decisions.</p>

<p>One of his favorite strategies with students is using current macroeconomic examples, such as the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes to control inflation. In these course units, students learn to understand these actions through theoretical models and their real-world implications.&nbsp;</p> <p>He also hopes to prepare students for post-graduate life by sharing stories of successful alumni—as alumni serve as excellent role models. &quot;These stories help current students set tangible goals for their own futures,&quot; muses Song, who also introduces real-time events, such as FOMC meetings, into his curricula. &quot;We discuss their effects on the housing market, stock market, and cryptocurrency market. This helps students connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications.&quot;</p>
