<p><i><a href="https://www.sps.nyu.edu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/jonathan-m-tisch-center-of-hospitality.html">Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality</a> ‘02 grad Turab Saleem shares insights on his vast experience in the field and how his NYU SPS degree fueled his rise in the industry.</i></p> <p>Dubai native Turab Saleem earned his MS in Hospitality Management, Hotel Development, and Asset Management at the NYU Tisch Center in 2002. Saleem’s father worked in the airline industry, which sparked his passion for hospitality and tourism, and inspired him to pursue a career in the industry.</p> <p>After returning to Dubai after earning a bachelor’s degree in Switzerland, Saleem was captivated by his home city's remarkable growth. His desire to contribute to the region's evolving hospitality and tourism landscape motivated him to enhance his skills through higher education.</p> <p>“It was truly inspiring to have industry leaders from New York City as part of the NYU faculty. Their involvement brings real-time projects into the classroom, making the educational experience closely aligned with industry realities. This practical approach greatly facilitates a seamless transition into the professional world upon graduation,” says Saleem.</p>

<p>By his mid-twenties, Saleem was involved in initiatives such as Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, as well as the development of iconic hotels such as Shangri-La, St. Regis, and W. He considers his close collaborations with Michelin-starred chefs like Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges, and Gary Rhodes “an absolute privilege and an incredible learning experience that played a significant role in shaping [his] professional journey.”</p> <p>When asked what advice he has for current students, Saleem encourages them to “actively prepare for the realities of the industry. Gain practical experience through internships, engage with industry leaders, and observe how various sectors operate. This proactive approach will help you focus on your area of interest and ensure a smoother, more successful transition into the professional world after graduation.”</p> <p>Looking toward the future, Saleem is excited to explore ways in which cutting-edge tech and AI can be used to revolutionize the hospitality industry, reduce labor costs, and embrace sustainability. “Key features would include automated processes such as no traditional check-in or check-out, robotic concierge services, and seamless guest experiences—all designed to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers,” he adds.</p>
