This course introduces students to the principles and mechanisms of international and transitional justice—processes aimed at addressing past conflicts and building peace in societies emerging from violence. Students will explore how these justice systems work in practice, focusing on efforts to promote reconciliation and accountability.
Through immersive site visits and meetings with prosecutors, judges, NGOs, journalists, and academics, students will gain firsthand insight into the challenges and successes of justice in the former Yugoslavia. The program includes travel to The Hague, Sarajevo, and Belgrade, offering a rare chance to engage with the region’s journey to peace and justice.
