MS in Sports Business

Recent innovations in global sports consumption, the use of online and social media to engage and to build a fan base, and the implementation of redesigned sports business models have resulted in a range of issues and opportunities for individuals working in the sports industry. Successful professionals in this field now need to understand strategic business principles as they apply to different aspects of the global sports industry including communications and marketing, fiduciary relationships; the securing of capital used to build stadiums; and the principles involved in attaining fiscal responsibility in professional, collegiate, and amateur sports.

The NYU School of Professional Studies Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport MS in Sports Business offers leading-edge curriculum, that allows you to explore the legal complexities inherent in the industry including the significance of naming rights, television rights, and corporate sponsorship; the brand impact of a player’s behavior both on and off the field; the implications of gender disparities in sports operations; the difference in salary caps; and the reasons why governmental regulations and tax breaks exist. You will become adept in financial analysis and you will gain an in-depth understanding of the environment in which players, owners, leagues, and other sports entities operate.

Guided by top industry professionals, you will acquire the knowledge and the practical experience needed to analyze financial and economic data, to communicate in various digital media, and to understand new philosophies governing contract negotiations, sponsorships, collective bargaining, naming rights, luxury taxes, and revenue sharing. In addition, you will acquire critical thinking skills and core competencies that are immediately applicable in the workplace and that will increase you marketability whether you are thinking about career advancement or are considering a career change.
