2025 NYU SPS Undergraduate Convocation Student Speaker Morgan Garrett Unites Sports, Innovation, and Social Justice
Driven by a desire for exploration and social impact, Garrett melds her passions and experiences at NYU SPS to forge a meaningful career path.

<p><span class="p-body">For this year’s Undergraduate Convocation student speaker, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/morgangarrett/" target="_blank">Morgan Garrett</a>, her NYU SPS experience has been transformative, providing her with the tools and confidence to carve a unique path in sports, entertainment, and advocacy.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">Originally from Houston, Texas, Garrett is graduating with a <a href="/content/sps-nyu/explore/degrees-and-programs/bs-in-sport-management.html">Bachelor of Science in Sport Management</a> with a Pre-Law focus from the <a href="/content/sps-nyu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/preston-robert-tisch-institute-for-global-sport.html">NYU SPS Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport</a>. As an aspiring sports and entertainment attorney, she has embraced opportunities that merge legal expertise with industry innovation, all while staying committed to social justice.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Garrett noted that Professor Gina Antoniello’s <a href="/content/sps-nyu/courses/TCSM1-UC2650-sociology-of-sport.html">Sociology of Sport</a> and Professor David Hollander’s <a href="/content/sps-nyu/courses/TCSM1-UC2550-how-basketball-can-save-the-world-an-exploration-of-society-p.html">How Basketball Can Save the World</a> courses expanded her perspective on the impact of sports beyond the field. She also emphasized the significance of experiential learning at NYU SPS, including internships and study abroad programs, which provided invaluable real-world insights.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">Garrett's professional portfolio highlights her diverse experience in the sports and entertainment industries, with internships at Roc Nation, The Davis Firm, and Sony Music Entertainment, where she contributed to both legal and marketing initiatives within these sectors. Complementing her industry experience, she also pursued a pro bono internship at Proskauer Rose LLP, contributing to legal initiatives that directly impacted marginalized communities and solidified her commitment to social justice.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">Beyond her professional endeavors, a pivotal experience for Garrett was her NYU study abroad program in South Africa, which provided first hand insight into the transformative power of education and community support in driving social change. "That trip reshaped my definition of success," she shared. "It wasn’t just about personal achievement anymore — it was about advocating for others and pushing beyond what’s expected."</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">Garrett has demonstrated leadership both academically and within the community, having served as President of Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Vice President of NYU’s Undergraduate Law Society, and Sony Music U Campus Representative for NYU Program Board. Her commitment to creating meaningful change was further recognized with her selection as an NYU Social Impact Changemaker Fellow.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">After graduation, Garrett aims to pursue a career in sports and entertainment law while dedicating time to pro bono social justice initiatives.</span></p>
