Dear NYU SPS community,

As we settle into the fall semester, I’d like to recognize how NYU SPS continues to cultivate a vibrant and diverse, welcoming and accessible global community.

As President Mills emphasized in her back-to-school remarks, we’ve heard your call for more communication and are working towards an institution-wide effort to listen more and bridge across perspectives and divides. I encourage you to continue to bring constructive dialogue to our events, classrooms, and meetings through empathy, grace, respect, and listening.

Wellbeing is a cornerstone that our thriving community is built on. With the semester underway and midterms around the corner, I want to ensure our NYU SPS community is aware of the wellbeing, health, and safety resources available to you. I encourage you to prioritize your mental health, find ways to balance work and rest, and ask for help when needed. We must take care of ourselves and each other so that each of us feels supported and valued.

In supporting our global community, I’m proud to see that many SPS clubs are coming together to volunteer with AFYA this semester. The organization was founded by an NYU alumna to get unused medical supplies to regions in need. This fall, AFYA is delivering supplies to Gaza and Israel. NYU is hosting sorting events on October 1, November 4, and December 9, 2024. I hope you will join everyone across the university in this commitment to service.

Your voice matters, and it’s meant to be heard. All eligible voters in the NYU community can continue to find ways to be civically active and engaged with NYU Votes ahead of the U.S. Presidential Election in November. Explore their resources to find registration deadlines, tips for making your voting plan, and volunteer opportunities.

The NYU in Dialogue speaker series continues to offer interesting and new perspectives, and I hope to see you at an upcoming event. The series brings together great minds from across our University and guests from around the world to grow our capacity to listen, to value different perspectives, and to flourish.

I’m excited to celebrate NYU SPS’ 90th Anniversary with you all this month at Alumni and Families Weekend. And, I look forward to introducing the first inductees to our NYU School of Professional Studies Hall of Fame! Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

And finally, the 2024 Transportation Survey is now open to help us better understand how our NYU community moves around our campus and the city. The results will inform safe, healthy, convenient, accessible, and sustainable travel practices that will benefit us all. This seven minute confidential survey is open until Friday, November 1, and has daily, weekly, and grand prize giveaways.

Thank you for being part of our community and for your ongoing support.

Warmly,
Angie Kamath
Dean, NYU SPS
Follow the dean!
X Instagram
