Each year, the lobby of SPS’s flagship building at 7 East 12th Street is transformed to host Global Village, a vibrant evening of sharing the food, cultures, attire and arts of our many diverse SPS backgrounds. With a $10 passport you can taste the cuisine of all those represented. Featured dishes included chicken biryani, vegetable pholourie, halo-halo (Filipino shaved ice cream sundae) and kimbop. We had representation from China, Colombia, India, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Poland, Kazakhstan, Russia, Senegal, Slovenia, South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, the United States, and Vietnam. Students proudly represented their places of origin, serving ethnic dishes, dancing, singing, displaying cultural artifacts, and wearing local attire.
Over the last four years, the event has become a popular school-wide tradition sponsored by the School’s Graduate and Undergraduate Student Councils, the Community Service Committee, the International Club, the International Student Support Center, the Office of Student Life, and Live Well NYU.
The joy and excitement of Global Village infuses the evening and generates the warmth and dynamism of a true SPS family and the sentiment that created the slogan #WeAreSPS!
