An Introduction to Dante's Purgatory

For those readers who have been through Hell, this course offers a selection of cantos from the next—and more hopeful—realm. Join us for a trip through Purgatory, where Dante and Virgil guide readers through a place of expiation. We will be treated to seven levels of suffering and spiritual growth (associated with the seven deadly sins), and finally to Earthly Paradise in Dante’s poetic description of the penitent Christian life, while also addressing the nature of sin, examples of vice and virtue, and moral issues in politics and in the church.
