The History of Controversial Supreme Court Cases

Register for this Spring 2024 course on the new NYU SPS Academy of Lifelong Learning website .
We will start with Marbury v. Madison  in 1801 and Dred Scott v. Sandford  as well as Plessy v. Ferguson  later in the 19th century. Then from Brown v. Board of Education;   Miranda, Loving v. Virginia;   and Roe v. Wade  in the 20th Century, to the 21st century’s contentious cases including Bush v. GoreDistrict of Columbia v. Heller, Citizens United, Shelby County, Obergefell, Dobbs; Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard  and the University of North Carolina, and 303 Creative LLC,   we discuss some of the most controversial cases in the history of the United States Supreme Court. Together, we will explore the causes of the controversies and the country’s reactions to these important issues and cases.  Spring 2024 tuition is $799.
