Education and International Development
According to the World Bank, education is a powerful driver of development and one of the strongest instruments for reducing poverty and improving health, gender equality, peace, and stability. Developing countries have made tremendous progress in improving education, with a substantial increase in primary school enrolment between 1990 and 2015. However, some countries have been lagging behind, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, where there are still countries with literacy rates under 50%. This course will examine education, its key issues and metrics reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals, and what global and national stakeholders are doing to improve education outcomes in low- and middle-income countries.
