Global Affairs Certificate in Clean Energy

Diploma Description

The clean energy sector encompasses many different technologies and policies. The NYU Clean Start program - a collaboration between the Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon and the Center for Global Affairs within NYU SPS - provides a foundation in these topics and prepares students for jobs in this growing field. Students gain an understanding of clean energy solutions in a variety of areas, such as transportation, energy-efficient buildings, renewable residential and commercial installations, and smart grids. Students engage with clean energy data and hone the basic skills required to interpret and analyze this information for data-driven decision-making. Courses provide a foundation in energy modeling and financing in addition to an exploration of the energy ecosystem and variety of ways in which startups are contributing to the transition to renewables. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of the strategies and related competencies for a successful career working in a wide variety of clean energy jobs.The program curriculum combines a traditional academic approach with experiential learning to train professionals for a smooth transition into a clean energy career.

The Certificate in Clean Energy is awarded to those who successfully complete the five required courses within the NYU Clean Start program. Classes are offered virtually on nights and weekends.

Courses are offered sequentially as follows:

  • Foundations of Clean Technology (Offered in Fall and Spring - must be taken first unless you receive approval)
  • Energy Modeling Foundations (Offered in Fall and Spring)
  • Clean Energy Ecosystem (Offered in January and Summer)
  • Analytics for Energy Professionals (Offered in Fall and Spring)
  • Clean Energy Capstone Project (Offered in Fall and Spring - must be taken last)

Program costs for the 2022-2023 Academic Year are as follows: $849 per course plus registration fees per semester. Declared Certificate students receive 10% off of courses within the program.
