Alexander Grijalva

Alexander Grijalva is a 30+ year information technology veteran. He has worked in the financial, retail, and healthcare industries developing and implementing business continuity and disaster recovery, change management, and information security programs. He was also early in his career a licensed financial services professional, earning both Series 7 and 63 licenses, developing money management methodologies using technology for a high net worth wealth management team. Additionally, he worked at one of the first e-commerce companies that pioneered the use of the Internet for business-to-business supply chain logistics, challenging the legacy leased line market.

For the last 20 years, he has focused on information security and is currently serving as Chief Information Security Officer at VillageCare, a community-based, not-for-profit organization serving seniors and individuals in need of continuing care and rehabilitation services. He has written articles on cybersecurity topics for health information technology magazines and presented at conferences hosted by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), discussing privacy and security topics. He is a certified information security professional with certifications issued by ISC2 and ISACA.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Master of Science in Management and Systems degrees from NYU SPS. A proud alumnus, he joined the SPS adjunct faculty in 2023. He has taught the Management of Information Systems, Information Security Management, and Strategic Management of Technological Innovation graduate courses. He is also an adjunct lecturer at New York City College of Technology, part of the City University of New York system, and teaches the HIPAA Privacy and Security course at Columbia University's Health IT Certificate program.

He also dabbled in sports writing. He wrote soccer articles for ESPN Soccernet, ESPN's early soccer news site, covering Major League Soccer and international games.
