Barbara Borst teaches in the master’s program at the Center for Global Affairs, offering courses on refugees and internationally displaced persons, democratic transitions, news media and international affairs, children and youth in the global context, African current affairs, and writing. She has led classes to Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa and Ghana. She is the faculty advisor for the student-run journal Global Affairs Review. She also teaches international reporting in the master’s program at NYU’s Journalism Institute.

While based abroad for a dozen years, in Nairobi, Johannesburg, Paris and Toronto, she reported for Newsday, The Boston Globe, The Dallas Morning News, The Los Angeles Times and Inter Press Service news agency. At The Associated Press, she was as an editor on the international desk and frequently reported from the United Nations. She is the founder of the reporting website Civic Ideas.

She holds a BA in English from Yale and an MA in international relations from Boston University’s overseas program in Paris.
