The Commercial Real Estate Finance Council (CREFC) and the NYU SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate are pleased to announce the creation of the CREFC Center for Real Estate Finance at the Schack Institute. The Center is supported by an endowment gift to NYU announced by CREFC at its January 2020 conference and will serve as a hub for industry collaboration on research initiatives, novel programming, and student engagement.
In addition to student scholarships, programming during the upcoming academic year includes an industry-leading certificate program for CREFC members, standalone courses responsive to current market conditions, and a research paper series with contributions from faculty and CREFC Industry Fellows. The Center’s inaugural research symposium is planned for Summer 2021.
“The Center will convene members of academia and industry in addressing issues of critical importance for the commercial real estate finance sector,” said Lisa Pendergast, CREFC’s Executive Director. “Educating and diversifying the next generation of commercial real estate finance professionals is an issue we take very seriously and we could not think of a better partnership than the NYU SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate. We are confident that this program will make great strides in helping more women and underrepresented minorities enter the pipeline of students we are able to recruit to the commercial real estate finance sector.”
“We are excited for this opportunity to deepen our long-term partnership with one of the real estate industry’s leading trade associations and are grateful to CREFC’s members for their leadership gift,” added Sam Chandan, Larry & Klara Silverstein Chair in Real Estate Development and Investment at Schack. “The Center’s collaborative approach to applied research will support the industry while providing important guidance for regulators and policymakers.”
