Tisch Center Student Ayushi Khanchandani: My internship at Hermès

Ayushi Khanchandani is a student in the M.S. in Event Management program at the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality. In this post, she tells us more about her internship this semester.

Where are you interning and what is your job title?

I am currently interning at Hermès of Paris, a French luxury goods company, as their Special Events Intern in their New York City headquarters. Some examples of events my team produces include store openings, women’s and men’s ready-to-wear screenings, and VIP client events.

What projects have you been working on so far?

I have been assisting with logistics relating to their upcoming events which include vendor research, inventory tracking, messenger arrangements, invitation deployment, and post-event recaps. I also consistently manage inventory with our storage facility and the team’s master calendar.

Have there been any challenges in your internship so far? If so, how have you learned to overcome them?

Professionally, I do not have much event experience, so this is a whole new world for me.  Coming from the financial industry, my foundation in events stemmed from any volunteer experiences I had, and the knowledge I have gained at NYU thus far. It has been a challenge, adjusting to be an intern again, especially after being in the workforce for over 3 years. I am learning to overcome this challenge by reminding myself of the importance of the work I’m doing and how this is the start of my journey!

What do you hope to take away from your internship?

There is a lot I can gain from this internship both personally and professionally. I hope to witness many different types of events, from ideation to implementation. One of my goals is to be involved in as much logistical planning throughout the event process as possible. This could be as little as listening in on a call, to even owning a task. I also wish to learn as much as I can about the luxury industry; there is a lot to learn about the goals, mission, vendors, and audience of the company and the events they host. Personally, this internship opportunity will allow me to understand my strengths and weaknesses in event planning. Then, I can tailor my classes at NYU to help me work on those weaknesses.

What are your future plans?

With my internship at Hermès, I am one step closer to reaching my future goals. I want to continue to work in the luxury space and make my way up the ladder on an events team!
