The Integrated Marketing and Communications (IM&C) department provides professional development certificates and courses in the areas of digital marketing, social media, strategic media communications, marketing research, content development, public relations, marketing strategy, and branding. This portfolio of continuing education programs provides students the opportunity to advance in their careers and acquire new skills, building upon their current interests and insights. Certificates and professional development courses are open enrollment and do not require an application process.
Certificates provide credentials for those who wish to gain a broad-based understanding of a specialized field, supporting a potential career change or an opportunity to upgrade current skills. As a student enrolled in an NYU Certificate, you benefit by gaining a comprehensive understanding of an industry or discipline through the program’s required courses, alongside opportunities to apply your knowledge in a practical sense. Upon completion of your studies, you will have earned a credential that provides a thorough overview of the field you intend to pursue, as well as a deeper understanding of the career paths available. We currently offer three Certificates:
- ARF Marketing Optimization and Insights: With the mainstreaming of digital technologies and the resultant streams of consumer data, the field of marketing analytics has witnessed dramatic change over the past decade and, with that, challenges for those seeking entry-level marketing jobs as well as for those trained in traditional marketing who want to advance their marketing career. Taught by experienced marketing professionals, this online marketing certificate provides students with marketing case studies that focus on real-world application of marketing research and analytic methods to diagnose marketing problems, iterate solutions, and evaluate marketing effectiveness. From advertising analytics to marketing campaign strategy, all students who successfully complete this online certificate program will be prepared to provide the marketing insights needed to deliver data-driven marketing.
- Healthcare Marketing and Communications: Professionals who wish to launch, switch, or advance their careers in healthcare marketing and communications require a unique and differentiated set of skills. This highly regulated sector has seen rapid growth and disruption driven by the entry of nontraditional players and a revolution in patient communications and engagement. This certificate provides students with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and insights necessary for an understanding of the evolving field, alongside the critical thinking and practical tools required to build integrated marketing and communications plans that effectively and ethically support the growth objectives of a healthcare business.
- Social Media: The Certificate in Social Media gives students a general knowledge of the social media field that can be applied to any profession. Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to explain the principles of social media, examine key aspects of social media communications, identify existing and future opportunities for social media communications for their project or business, and describe how social media complements an integrated marketing communication plan.
- Strategic Media Communications: Marketing and public relations in any organization need to work in tandem to produce solutions that positively impact reputation, brand health, growth, and profitability. The Certificate in Strategic Media Communications provides a foundational knowledge of public relations and is ideally suited for professionals working in, or interested in, both marketing and PR who want to keep their skills current and up-to-date. Upon completion, students will be able to create impactful public relations communications, explain how public relations principles are critical to the success of any organization, and examine current events through the lens of PR challenges and opportunities.
Certificates generally consist of two required foundational courses and two electives and typically take two semesters to complete.
