Oil Companies Can’t Be Wished Out of the Climate Conversation

Carolyn Kissane, Associate Dean of the NYU SPS Center for Global Affairs and Founder of the ECJS Lab writes in Barron’s about the role of hydrocarbon producers in addressing climate change and their role at COP28.

“The inconvenient truth of 2023 is that tackling climate change requires the active participation of major hydrocarbon producers. Those include both international oil companies of all sizes and the national, state-owned oil companies that produce over half of global supply. Disregarding them would undermine climate initiatives, considering their crucial role in ensuring energy security and the substantial global emissions from energy production.”
