Earn a bachelor’s degree in sport management while traveling the world! Coming in Spring 2024, our BS in Sport Management, Global Specialization allows students to earn 50% of their degree in New York City and up to 50% at select NYU Global sites. No other sport management program, or any degree program in other majors at NYU or other universities, offers this type of global experience as part of their degree plan. This degree offering is uniquely different than anything else you’ll find!
Global Specialization
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
There are two options for this program: (1) a spring admission, which allows students to study on four continents and three global sites or (2) a fall admission that allows students to study on five continents at four global sites. When you apply to the sport management program, you should indicate your interest in the program on your application form. Once students opt into this program, they must complete the degree program as prescribed.
How does the degree plan differ from the NYC-based degree?
Students are following the same degree plan, but the Global Specialization uses a cohort model that requires students to follow a prescribed plan to ensure all courses are completed in time for graduation. Students will still have the flexibility to take professional electives when in NYC, but most core and liberal arts courses will be completed abroad.
How expensive is this program?
We understand the importance of knowing all the costs for this program. Groceries/dining, airfare, student visa, and personal expenses will vary greatly by student. Tuition is the same as when enrolled at the degree campus. However, the following table is shared as a guide for planning. More detailed information can be found here on the NYU Global site. The following highlights the housing, and food costs for the locations for a sample cohort by global location.

Are scholarships available?
The Tisch Institute for Global Sport will offer competitive scholarships to help offset travel to the global sites. Students will have the opportunity to apply prior to each travel semester.
Can you explain the Cohort Model?
Sure! Students who choose the Global Specialization will follow a cohort model, completing at least 50% of their academic program at the NYC campus and up to 50% completed by rotating to select NYU Global sites, depending on the semester you enroll and start the program. To ensure this happens smoothly, students will be required to take courses in a specific order (don’t worry, you’ll have an academic advisor who will help you coordinate your schedule accurately!).
Here’s an example for a student who matriculates into the spring semester first:
- Cohort 1 will begin in Spring 2024 in NYC. They will start on the NYC campus for spring and summer (Note: summer is required for all spring admits). Spring admits will visit three global sites.
- Spring Cohort will launch to Madrid in Fall 2024.
- Fall Cohort will begin in Madrid in Fall 2024 with the Spring Cohort.
- Fall Cohort will visit four sites.
To ensure a timely graduation, the students will follow the required schedule outlined below.

What if I want to spend more time in NYC?
All cohorts will have one “flex” semester which will allow a student to return to NYC for a semester rather than traveling to a global site. Students must declare they are using their flex option during the previous semester. For example, if the student is in Spring Cohort 1 and does not want to travel to Accra in Fall 2026, they must declare in writing their intent to study in NYC during the Spring 2026 semester.
What might an example plan look like for a student who starts in Spring 2024?
Below is an example degree plan that highlights how the student will complete the degree plan if they start in Spring 2024.
