Topics in Business: Project Management

Are you imagining a future as a CEO or founder of your own company? Have you ever wondered what skills you will need to launch a product and build a successful business? All businesses, whether in tech, marketing, advertising, engineering, nonprofits, investing, or communication, need skilled leaders who can manage and execute projects. This course exposes you to cutting-edge tools for handling project planning and management in business—and in life. Projects can include everything from applying to college to building the next Facebook to designing a self-driving car. Together we’ll take a new or existing idea and transform it into a full-blown project. The class will dive into the fundamentals of project management including:

  • Assessing the key areas for project planning
  • Identifying and managing risk
  • Using communication skills for managing your team
  • Working within the “tradeoff triangle” of budget, time, and scope


Through case studies, in-class activities, and guest speakers, you’ll get a bird’s eye view of project work today and its important role in your future.

Ideal For

  • High school students who have completed grades 9, 10, or 11
  • High school students who are interested in exploring opportunities in project management for their own business or their professional future

You'll Walk Away With

  • Key management skills that can be applied to any project, including an understanding of how to set up a team, manage project personnel, and run successful meetings
  • The ability to design a project schedule, practice time management, and produce a project communication plan (including social media)
  • Knowledge of how effectively to use professional communication skills throughout the project life cycle
  • An NYU transcript showing grade(s) earned upon completion of the course (Please note: No college credit or certificate of completion is granted for this course.)
