The Tisch Institute for Sports Management, Media, and Business is a widely recognized and highly respected brand in graduate and undergraduate sports business education. Our goal is not only to prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of this exciting field, but also to give them the tools to become leaders in the industry. To better understand the identity of the Tisch Institute, I'd like to share our key areas of focus.
Our academic focus is on developing our students' critical thinking skills. We begin by building a strong foundation of knowledge of the complex workings and interactions within the sports industry, along with teaching specific skills and tools necessary to make an immediate contribution in a professional setting. But more importantly, our curriculum focuses on developing rational, evidence-based problem-solving skills, which are increasingly valued in today's hyper-competitive job market. A common theme throughout our curriculum is the practice of conceptualizing, analyzing, and synthesizing information to solve problems.
Beyond our focus on critical thinking skill development, we pride ourselves on being on the leading edge of the industry revolution. From our connections to the eSports sector, to our exploration of sports technology, including virtual reality and artificial intelligence, or the latest social media metrics, we are constantly monitoring the most current trends. As a sports analytics practitioner, I'm constantly exploring emerging technologies so that the Tisch Institute can be among the first to integrate new insights into the classroom.
A third distinguishing trait of the Tisch Institute and its faculty is our connectivity to the sports industry. We are the benefactors of proximity to many of the world's leading sports leagues, teams, athlete representation firms, sports marketing agencies, and of course, sports venues—all right here in the New York City area. Our faculty is drawn from this community, which leads to deep, meaningful connections—an asset to students in the classroom, pursuing the many local internship opportunities, and building a lifelong career network.
Beyond our prime location in the heart of New York City, we have successfully established ourselves on the global stage as a premier sports business educator. Thanks in part to NYU’s position as one of the world’s most globally oriented institutions, we have equally deep connections to sport industry partners, as well as academic partners around the globe. Our study abroad options range from Shanghai and Tokyo to Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, Berlin, London, Florence, and Sydney, to mention just a few.
Finally, we are housed within the NYU School of Professional Studies, which assures our students that we are focused on preparing them for the job market. As the experts in "applied learning," our brand of education represents a "bridge" to a rewarding professional career.
We are very proud of today's Tisch Institute, but that only serves as motivation to achieve even greater heights. My commitment to our students, our 1,000+ alumni, our faculty members and administrators, and our sports industry partners and friends, is that we will be an even greater force tomorrow as we strive to reach our ultimate goal—the undisputed global leader in sports business education. We hope you will join us for what proves to be a most rewarding journey.
