Event-When Real Estate Meets Innovation

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Schack Institute of Real Estate Urban Lab presented a panel discussion titled, “When Real Estate Meets Innovation,” on Thursday, December 7. In recent years, the arrival of high-tech startups and companies has transformed the fabric of our urban economies, creating numerous opportunities for real estate and economic development. Increasingly, developers have set their sights on building large-scale innovation districts like New York's Hudson Yards or Boston's Seaport Innovation District. While these initiatives have the ability to drive prosperity and economic growth, they also have the potential to compound our urban divides. The discussion explored the challenges and opportunities that arise when technology becomes a key player in a city's economy. Moderated by The Real Deal's Editorial Director Hiten Samtani, the discussion featured perspectives from Kate Bicknell, Senior Vice President of Forest City Ratner Companies; Regina Myer, President of Downtown Brooklyn Partnership; Brian Platt, Chief Innovation Officer for Jersey City; and Andrew Kimball, CEO of Industry City.
