New York Marriott Marquis Awards $10,000 Scholarship to Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management

NEW YORK, December 22, 2010 - The New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) has announced that the School’s Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management has received a scholarship from the New York Marriott Marquis in the amount of $10,000.

Already a patron of the annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, the New York Marriott Marquis continues its longstanding relationship with NYU-SCPS and ongoing support of the Tisch Center with a $10,000 scholarship for academically promising students who are enrolled in the Center’s degree programs in hospitality, tourism, and sports management.

“The need for scholarships has never been greater, and this support in addition to everything the management and associates of the Marriott Marquis do for our students is especially appreciated,” said Bjorn Hanson, divisional dean and clinical professor of the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management at NYU-SCPS.

“The New York Marriott Marquis has always been considered a ‘teaching hotel’ within our company,” said Mike Stengel, vice president – market general manager for Marriott’s New York City hotels.  “It is important that we nurture promising students who are pursuing careers in the hospitality industry and that we show our support with this scholarship.”

Within NYU-SCPS, the Tisch Center offers two bachelor’s degree programs (B.S. in Hotel and Tourism Management and B.S. Sports Management), three master ’s degree programs (M.S. in Hospitality Industry Studies, M.S. in Sports Business, and M.S. in Tourism Management), and three graduate certificates (in Hospitality Industry Studies, Sports Business, and Tourism  Management). The Tisch Center is also known for organizing the annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference in New York City. Considered the premier hospitality finance and development forum of its kind, the Conference will next take place on June 5-7, 2011.
