John Toner is a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader with 20 years experience in public policy, product development, marketing, and business management accelerating positive environmental and social impacts. John brings a deep commitment to public and private sector solutions that tackle systemic challenges with pragmatic, equity-based, and data-driven strategies. Currently he is Head of Impact Strategy at Lemon Tree Productions, a company he founded to help nonprofits, government agencies, and companies turn audiences into champions for a better future through strategic communications, groundbreaking storytelling, creative marketing and data-driven campaigns. Prior to Lemon Tree, he led successful global growth and ESG impact strategies with Amyris biotechnologies. In that role he successfully helped transform the beauty and personal care industry by embracing climate-friendly, sustainable ingredients. He brings extensive experience in data-driven policy making, having led global United Nations programs with UNICEF, UNDP, and UNFPA designed to help policymakers achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in over 100 countries. This included facilitating strategy trainings for over 200 government officials and the digitization of the national Belizean education system. Toner has a strong background in ESG reporting, renewable energy, and sustainable development. He holds a master’s degree in Global Affairs, International Business, and Development from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University in History. He holds a Masters Certificate in Social Development, Labor and Equality from UMSA in La Paz, Bolivia. He launched and leads the Baltimore chapter of the global video storyteller network, The Video Consortium.
