Essentials of Sports Writing
Sports writing is a business—and in this business, writing is only half the equation. The other half involves delivering strong, compelling, informative, and neutral pieces that really tell a story. So, how do you transform a passion for sports into the written word? Are you interested in becoming a sports writer or working in sports media or sports journalism? If so, then learn how to transition from having an idea to writing effective and entertaining prose, all while mastering the principles of writing news, features, profiles, personal essays, and historical sports articles. Discuss and examine how best to get an editor’s attention in order to get published and how to produce individual writing pieces utilizing research, pitches, and interview skills. Class will meet synchronously on October 16 at 6:30 p.m. From October 23 to November 20, class will meet asynchronously the first hour, then synchronously the second hour. Please contact the department for more information.
