Sports Startup Lab

Technology is completely reshaping the way the sports industry does business. It has changed everything from how fans consume live sports to how organizations and scouts evaluate talent. Members of the sports world have responded in kind by investing millions of dollars into sport-specific venture funds in an effort to give them a competitive edge in the digital era. This course is designed for those who are interested in building a sports startup and want to learn how to research, prototype, and iterate a product or concept. Students will have the opportunity to solve complex real-world problems submitted by prominent sports industry stakeholders, ranging from the “Big Four” major pro sports leagues, former players, up-and-coming sports startups, and notable accelerator programs. These industry partners will serve as a sounding board to help students identify how to approach similar organizations who likely could serve as initial customers and/or investors in their respective startup journeys. Students will walk away with a tangible early iteration of a product concept that will serve as a powerful marketing tool to potential cofounders, investors, and partners.
