Introduction to the Markets
An introduction to the securities markets provides the foundation needed for the study of finance. Learn the differences among stocks, bonds, commodities, futures, derivatives, options and currencies. Topics include the history of capital markets and their function; risk/return trade-off; fundamentals versus technical analysis; and contemporary investor attitudes, problems, and pitfalls. There will also be discussions of the 2008 Financial Crisis: causes, responses and prospects for the future. This course will touch on the basic concepts also found in macroeconomics, portfolio management, corporate finance, and money and banking.
