Photography: New York City Through the Camera Lens

Whether you’re an experienced photographer or a complete beginner, New York City offers great creative inspiration. Find visual stimuli 24/7 in the “city that never sleeps.” The sights, the smells, the sounds, and the people are sure to inspire you and provide you with a new way of looking at things. During this class, we visit various sites around the City while you create a digital image bank of your work. In the classroom, we discuss what goes into taking great photo—color and composition, form and content, and emotional resonance in the use of atmosphere and exposure—as you work to build your technical aptitude in digital photography. Gain familiarity with digital photography, including the technical use of a digital camera; basic art terms and meanings; manipulation of elements such as color, composition, and form; and introductory skills in photo editing. You may either bring your own DSLR or replaceable-lens camera or use a camera provided by NYU.
