This diploma program will no longer be accepting new applications.
Whether you are a novice translator exploring a new career path, or a practicing translator seeking a more rigorous educational foundation for your work, the Diploma in Professional Translation (French to English) is ideally suited to helping you to achieve your professional goals.
This comprehensive diploma will provide an overview of translation concepts and techniques, as well as hands-on training in the translation of documents from a wide range of fields: financial, commercial, medical, legal, literary, and other topics pertinent to today’s market. You will receive an introduction to the subject-specific knowledge and terminology required to work competently in today’s translation environment. You also will learn critical editing and proofreading skills. You will begin to build a portfolio of your own translations, an essential tool for all professional translators, and gain the confidence to handle assignments with speed and improved fluency.
In addition, this diploma will cover best practices of the industry and multilingual business resources, with a focus on interlanguage issues. Professionally, the Diploma functions both as a valuable qualification for employment at one of the numerous enterprises that require high-level language skills and as a path toward career advancement for those already practicing translation. The Diploma’s practical curriculum (two required language-neutral courses plus two French to English translation electives), duration flexibility (four courses taken in two to six semesters), and online accessibility, coupled with its competitive cost, make it an ideal industry education option for busy professionals who seek to enhance their education and their value to employers.
The Diploma is awarded to students who successfully complete the two required courses and two electives within two years.
Note: To be admitted to this program, students must pass a language proficiency exam—a 300-word passage that students have one hour and 45 minutes to translate from French to English—which is administered via email on preset dates.
