German Modern and Contemporary Art and the Art Market

German artistic movements have achieved high international standing, and their characteristic works of art are in great demand in the art market. This course looks at the history and development of these movements, from German expressionism, new objectivity, and Bauhaus to various postwar movements such as group ZERO and the New Leipzig School. Learn about iconic works from Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner, Käthe Kollwitz, George Grosz, Max Ernst, Joseph Beuys, Isa Genzken, Gerhard Richter, Katharina Grosse, Neo Rauch, and other artists. This course combines art history and connoisseurship with insight into the art market.
