"In this talk, I will talk about my team of Nepali women who came together to climb Mt. Everest. I will share about growing up as a girl in Nepal, the expectations of society and our own secret dreams. I will take the students on a virtual journey of the ups and downs of Everest and how they mirror leadership lessons. As a leader of the 'Seven Summits Women Team,' I learned a great deal that I never learned in school, despite being a business management student. Mountains taught me everything from personal discovery to visionary leadership. I will be sharing these insights. I will talk about how a personal challenge to climb mountains turned into a platform to empower the most vulnerable women. I will also share how stand-up comedy saved my mountaineering mission and later became a side-hustle of its own."

Shailee Basnet scaled Mt. Everest in the year 2008. She then led the "Seven Summits Women Team" which became the world's first female group to scale the highest peak in each continent. With her team, Shailee is now leading a program to help train young female survivors of trafficking to become trekking guides. Following the 2015 earthquake the team is also working towards rebuilding schools in remote Nepal.

Shailee travels internationally as a motivational speaker sharing some of the hard-earned insights learned both on and off the mountains. She enjoys hitting the stage as a stand-up comic and has performed at prestigious clubs in Nepal, USA, and India. Her journey has been covered by the BBC, ESPN, New York Daily News, among others.
