MS in Global Sport

Overview

The new MS in Global Sport is a 36-credit, low-residency master’s degree program that is completed in just 16 months, beginning in September of each year. The program, which is designed for busy professionals from around the world, is offered predominantly online, requiring only four one-week residencies—two in New York City and two at NYU global locations. Students in this innovative program acquire comprehensive knowledge and critical skills in key facets of sports business including digital media and marketing, analytics, leadership, finance and economics, and sports law.

Program Structure

Core Courses

The sequence of study is designed to sharpen reading comprehension and writing skills, elevate creative and critical thinking capacities, and enhance social and cultural understanding.

 

Low Residency

Delivered in a low-residency format, with four 1-week residencies. The remainder of the degree requirements are delivered predominantly online.

Capstone

The capstone course provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program to a real-world situation. It requires students to conduct research and to employ strong analytical thinking to develop a solution for a global sport business problem/issue.

 

Core Requirements

Students enrolled in the MS in Global Sport complete a total of 13 required courses. These courses provide a comprehensive understanding of global sport and the critical thinking skills necessary to become a leader in the sport industry.

Admission Criteria

Ideally, students should represent a variety of academic disciplines and professional backgrounds including, but not limited to: engineering, mathematics/statistics, economics, business, journalism/media studies, and law.

 

To be successful in undertaking this rigorous course of study, ideal candidates for this degree will have:

Students may only begin the program in September.

Language Proficiency

TOEFL scores are required for applicants who did not complete an undergraduate degree in the United States or in a country where the only primary language is not English.  A minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based test is recommended.

 

For the IELTS, a minimum overall band score of at least 7 is recommended.

 

NYUSPS does not prohibit applicants with lower TOEFL/IELTS scores from applying for admission since many factors influence the admissions decision. 

 

Pearson Versant English Placement Test (VEPT)

If an international applicant has not achieved the minimum scores as described above, they are required to participate in the VEPT, a 50-minute online test that evaluates English language proficiency.
