Youth Sports

One of the pressing needs in today's society is the importance of improving the culture of youth sports. Sports and Society offers a set of techniques, principles, and practices with which youth coaches and athletic directors can shape the culture in ways that complement their main objective: developing players, improving performance, and winning games.

It starts with promoting habits of good character -- specifically, respect and civility -- and integrating them into all skill-building, team-building, and game-playing activities. Because of their status and function, coaches and athletic directors can help affect this type of change, and it is imperative that they are encouraged to take responsibility for the culture in their program and provided with the information and tools to do so. They are the key.
