Social Responsibility

Many professional sports use some of their wealth and power to help people in need, but to what efforts should they apply their resources?

A constant stream of information can be found in news resports that showcase league and team efforts to make sports healthier and safer at all levels, improve literacy, create and fill jobs, address gender and racial inequalities, fight disease and poverty, prevent and treat injuries, prevent abuse, and clean up the environment. However, the processes that led to these efforts and their effects are not clearly defined. By collaborating closely with key industry partners, NYU Sports and Society is performing a systematic examination of the state of social responsibility practices in sports toward defining metrics for success, standards for operation, and principles for improvement.
