Recent scientific discoveries regarding the serious effects of concussions have led to impressive responses in the United States. This country is now a testbed for concussion prevention, reduction, and response programs, which will be subject to disparate levels of effectiveness-monitoring.

NYU Sports and Society is examining concussions in sports with three primary goals: (1) Examine the various existing definitions, diagnoses and treatments of sports concussions toward providing clarity for, and promoting uniformity among, sports programs, government, and scientific and medical institutions; (2) Stay current on concussion-science developments, and compare and publicize the extent to which existing anti-concussion efforts -- prevention, reduction, and response -- are informed by the best available science; and (3) Empower coaches, parents, and young athletes to make informed risk decisions, protect themselves, and advocate for the best possible protections in their sports communities.
