Opportunities and Outcomes
More than ever before, there is a growing demand for knowledgeable professionals capable of identifying and finding solutions to the unique challenges of a global environment defined by socioeconomic transformation, the rise of new and emerging world powers, globalization, and cultural paradigm shifts.
By combining rigorous, up-to-the-minute scholarship and placing it in a practical, real-world context, the MS in Global Affairs offers a multidisciplinary approach to addressing critical issues in the world today, and equips you with the advanced skills to effectively communicate ideas and concepts across many different sectors of the international arena, whether you are working with the general public or with policymakers.
If you are interested in a career on the international stage, our program gives you the context for understanding critical issues in international politics, economics, dispute settlement, law, human rights, energy, the environment, and related areas. As you progress in your career, you will be able to synthesize and to apply what you have learned to better understand our interconnected society. In addition, you will be able to use this knowledge to propose and to implement innovative solutions to complex problems for a range of organizations.
MS in Global Affairs students go on to assume leadership positions in government agencies, nongovernmental and community-based organizations, regional and international organizations, multinational corporations, the media, and scores of allied institutions. Some provide emergency relief, monitor human rights, and help refugees fleeing conflict in their own countries. Others are engaged in research, advocacy, policy formation, and nation building.
Those who choose to dedicate their careers to global affairs take on some of the most challenging issues. Reducing illiteracy and poverty, assisting displaced persons, establishing an equitable global trading system, and combating HIV/AIDS are just a few of the critical problems facing the world today in which our students become engaged.
Enrolled students and alumni of the MS in Global Affairs hold a variety of positions in NGOs; international organizations; the United Nations and its affiliated agencies; diplomatic missions; foreign offices; government agencies; international businesses; press and media outlets; law firms; foundations; and a host of allied institutions.
