Transfer Admission and Process

The NYU School of Professional Studies admissions committee performs a holistic review of candidates, taking into consideration every component of the application. Please be sure to review the admissions criteria to better familiarize yourself with the admissions process.

As a transfer student, we understand that you want to complete your degree in a cost-effective and timely manner. At the NYU School of Professional Studies, our staff of dedicated advisers meets, one-on-one, with prospective transfer students to determine how many of their credits will transfer and to map out a course of study that makes sense for their academic and career goals. Our generous transfer credit policy allows students to transfer up to half of the credits required to complete a bachelors degree. You will need to have earned at least 60 transferable credits to enroll in one of our bachelors degree programs.

Community College Transfer Opportunity Program (CCTOP)

The NYUSPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies has partnered with the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and the NYU School of Social Services through CCTOP. This scholarship and advisement program is designed to help qualified community college students transfer into the Division.

The CCTOP scholarship will award, to qualified students, 50 percent of a student's financial need, after accounting for expected family contribution from the estimated cost of attendance. This will have no impact on the student's other aid eligibility, and state and federal aid will be applied after the scholarship amount is awarded for the remaining need.

Community College Transfer Articulation Agreements

In addition to our generous credit transfer policy, we have developed transfer agreements with local community colleges to facilitate the transfer process for students.  Each agreement, listed below, ensures that students transferring from these schools to McGhee, receive full credit for courses they already have completed.

Credit for Prior Learning

Through our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program, Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies students may earn credit for certain life experiences that are equivalent to college-level study. PLA can expedite degree completion and reduce tuition costs.

Financial Aid

To be considered for financial aid, all students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Office of Financial Aid, using the data submitted on the FAFSA, develops a financial aid package that is sent to accepted transfer students two to three weeks after acceptance. Qualified students will receive information regarding federal loan eligibility and NYU School of Professional Studies scholarships.
