Event-The Case for Inclusive Prosperity

On Wednesday, September 27, the NYUSPS Urban Lab at the Schack Institute of Real Estate convened a panel of experts to discuss how cities and real estate investors can partner to build more inclusive communities. Together, the three panelists—Richard Florida, a Distinguished Fellow at the NYUSPS Urban Lab; Jodie W. McLean, chief executive officer at EDENS; and Lata Reddy, chair and president of the Prudential Foundation—outlined the case for an inclusive prosperity strategy, which recognizes the central role of equity in economic progress. After exploring the financial motivation to invest in inclusivity, the panelists urged large-scale institutions to make a joint commitment to improve their local neighborhoods. By making cities more equitable for all residents, they argued, institutions can improve their brands while promoting the kind of diversity, innovation, and creativity that leads to economic growth.
