NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate to Offer Bachelor of Science in Real Estate

New York, August 5, 2013 – The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate of the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) will begin offering a 128-credit B.S. in Real Estate during the Fall 2013 semester that will be geared toward attracting traditional-age college students to this dynamic profession.

The comprehensive curriculum will be comprised of a unique blend of NYU liberal arts programming that will be complemented by in-depth immersion in a broad array of professionally focused courses. The degree will prepare students to manage industry change within new and evolving conceptualizations of the urban landscape. Under the guidance of a distinguished faculty of prominent professionals who are deeply engaged in the real estate industry, students will acquire the most advanced knowledge of real estate finance, law, market analysis, and leasing. In addition, they will study key aspects of the real estate development process, as well as risk and portfolio management. They also will examine how sustainability is transforming the real estate industry.

“We are pleased to be able to offer a degree of this professional caliber on the undergraduate level. Real Estate affords a wealth of different career paths for those who are just starting out in the industry. An undergraduate degree in real estate provides competitive advantage in a marketplace that is ripe with opportunity,” said Rosemary Scanlon, divisional dean of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate.

Students who complete the B.S. in Real Estate also have the option to continue on to earn one of three master’s degrees offered by the Schack Institute. These include the M.S. in Real Estate, the M.S. in Real Estate Development, and the M.S. in Construction Management.

Students enrolled in the program will earn about half of their credits by completing the core curriculum and liberal arts required courses and electives through NYU’s central Washington Square campus. This sequence of study is designed to sharpen reading comprehension and writing skills, to develop creative and critical thinking capacities, and to enhance social and cultural understanding.

They also will be required to complete a rigorous plan of study that encompasses professionally oriented courses which explore the business of real estate, thereby acquiring essential industry knowledge and leadership skills and gaining hands-on experience through internships and industry events in New York City and around the globe.

Admission for the B.S. in Real Estate is administered through the NYU Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For additional information about the B.S. in Real Estate program, please visit scps.nyu.edu/schack/bsre. To apply, please visit nyu.edu/admissions or call 212-998-4500.
