Douglas Elliman Scholarship at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate to Begin Fall 2012 Semester

NEW YORK, February 13, 2012 –Prudential Douglas Elliman and the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) are pleased to announce the creation of the Douglas Elliman Scholarship within the School’s Schack Institute of Real Estate. Prudential Douglas Elliman will donate $20,000 a year over five years, a total of $100,000, to qualifying students seeking the highest standard of education in either NYU Schack’s M.S. in Real Estate or M.S. in Real Estate Development programs. This is the first time a residential real estate firm has funded a scholarship program for NYU Schack.

“We are so honored to be working with NYU-SCPS to invest in the future of our industry and give back to our community by way of this scholarship,” said Dottie Herman, president and CEO of Prudential Douglas Elliman. “The Douglas Elliman Scholarship will help to guide the next generation of top real estate professionals and give students access to funds not otherwise available. As a company, we are also committed to elevating the status and professionalism of our industry with great talent, and students who complete this top-tier higher education program graduate with a high level of management expertise and are in the position to become true leaders in the future of NYC real estate—one of the most demanding markets in the country.”

The first recipients, known as Douglas Elliman Scholars, will receive funds for the 2012 fall semester. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on academic achievement and demonstrated need, who have completed at least 24 credits towards their degrees. The scholarship will be awarded to a maximum of two students per semester in the fall and spring

“We are thrilled by these scholarships and extremely grateful to Prudential Douglas Elliman for investing in the future of our students,” said Rosemary Scanlon, interim divisional dean of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate. “These scholarships will recognize the high achievement levels of our students, as well as significantly help students gain the comprehensive learning experiences available at NYU Schack. We look forward to this future collaboration with Prudential Douglas Elliman.”

The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate was founded in 1967, at the initiative of prominent real estate leaders who encouraged NYU to establish an academic center that provided an educational foundation for professionals within their industry. Today, NYU Schack is home to graduate degree and related graduate certificate programs—notably the M.S. in Real Estate,  the M.S. in Construction Management, and the M.S. in Real Estate Development—which enroll some 600 full- and part-time students from more than 30 countries and have nearly 2,500 alumni degree-holders around the globe.
